I grew up very sheltered. I had never even met anyone who was not white until I was 17- at Berea College- standing in line waiting to get my laptop. Berea is a small school with a traditionally high academic barrier to entry, about half the population is international, plus you have to come from poverty. I had to get really ok with being wrong about a lot of things really fast and I was lucky to be able to do that in a place where people didn’t shame me for asking what seemed like idiotic questions. I’ve only been following you or engaging on twitter for a few months. I quickly noticed how afraid to be wrong everyone seemed. Your bio read “i am a dumb” and I knew you were gold. You’ve caused me to change my perspective more than a handful of times, taught me a lot of things, and I appreciate that so much.
There are things I want to say but can’t (because my job) and things I go ahead and say (because fuck it) and stuff I delete (because somewhere in between).
The cartoon dog is a shining beacon of hope for continuing to say the quiet things loud- re clout, re echo chamber, re challenging our own tribe (or leaders of the tribe for that matter).
Your presence in bird app is, in my assessment, the most net positive of any account I’ve observed and as long as you’re writing, I’ll be here for it.

People don’t always say the nice things they think about others when they think them but the world would be better if we started doing more of that.
